Karen Brooks, BS, RD

Ms. Brooks is a Registered Dietitian who joined the Ofstead team as a Research Associate in 2005. Her most recent position was RD at the San Francisco Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in acute and long term care. Additionally, Ms. Brooks provided counseling on an outpatient basis at the San Francisco Free Clinic and in her private practice. Ms. Brooks’ nutritional counseling areas of expertise include: geriatric nutrition, weight management (weight loss or gain), gastric bypass (pre- and post-operative), diabetes (Types I and II as well as pre-diabetes), cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and digestive disorders.

In addition to working as a clinician, Ms. Brooks has extensive project management and consulting experience in a variety of clinical, managed care, and health insurance settings. She has served as a market research and development consultant at Blue Shield of California, where she led research efforts to redesign midsize employer group products. Prior to that, Ms. Brooks conducted patient surveys and technology usability research for a subsidiary of Health Net, Inc. During her time as Senior Project Manager at Kaiser Permanente, Ms. Brooks supported regional efforts to redesign adult primary care delivery protocols and implement a new appointment and advice call center initiative.
