Cori Ofstead presented findings from two studies at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Annual Conference on June 14, 2017.
The first presentation was entitled “Evaluation of reprocessing effectiveness of flexible ureteroscopes.” It described results of visual examinations, biochemical tests, and microbial cultures of patient-ready endoscopes used to remove kidney stones. Read the AJIC abstract here.
The second presentation was entitled “Impact of sampling and microbial culture methods on results of tests for residual contamination on colonoscopies and gastroscopes.” It focused on factors that may result in false negative results when evaluating the effectiveness of endoscope reprocessing. During the conference, Ms. Ofstead received the 2017 APIC and AJIC Award for Publication Excellence on behalf of Ofstead’s research team and our co-authors at Mayo Clinic.
