Cori Ofstead and Dr. Harry Wetzler presented at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Annual Conference on June 28, 2015. Their presentation, entitled “The evidence behind new guidelines for reprocessing flexible endoscopes,” provided an overview of the science that led to guideline revisions related to reprocessing flexible endoscopes. They explained findings from recent clinical studies and examined procedural variables and clinical circumstances that may increase the risk of pathogen transmission via endoscopes.
John Eiland and Cathy Rocco also presented at the APIC Annual Conference on June 28, 2015. Their presentation, entitled “Reprocessing endoscopes in ambulatory care settings: What, when, why, and where?,” explored rising pressure on ambulatory care centers from media, government, accrediting organizations, and the public to improve quality and ensure that clean endoscopes are used on patients. They provided suggestions for improving practices and preparing for audits by The Joint Commission, CMS, and AAAHC.
